Ideal for a family or a group of friends for relaxing summer holidays or winter sports.

The space

Fully equipped kitchen (double sink, stove, oven, dishwasher, food processor mixer etc.).

Additional single bed available and a bed (a cot) for young children.

Garage for 1 car with plenty of space for skis and bicycles, outside private parking for 2 additional cars, all at road level.

Utility room with table tennis and other games (use inside or outside).

Laundry area with washing machine, tumble dryer, large sink, clothes dryer.

BBQ, outdoor table, chairs, sunshade (canopy), parasol (sun umbrella), deck chairs.

Guest access

Your access to the Chalet is private, directly from the road, either via its front door (10 steps from the drive down to the garden) or through the garage door (at road level, so very convenient when it snows).

You can use all the chalet (except 1 storage room), the garage and parking spaces, utility room, and all of its surrounding garden.

Interaction with guests

I stay next door, much of the year, and will be on hand to help make your stay go smoothly and offer suggestions of where to go and what to visit.

Other things to note

At the right time of the year you can pick/cut your own fruit in the garden; red currants, raspberries, blackberries, hazelnuts, quinces, crab apples, herbs and lavender. Next door also cherries, plums, apricots, blackcurrants, apples, pears, gooseberries and wild strawberries.

During the winter you'll be pleased to know that we do get lots of snow, and heavy snow some years, so you will need appropriate clothing and footwear, and snow chains for your car (obligatory to have onboard during the winter).

You should factor in additional time for your journey when snow is forecast.

Public services do clear all the roads very well and frequently, starting with main roads. Then they proceed to clean smaller roads. There is one car length (4 metres) of private parking to access the garage that public services don't clear.

The neighbourhood

Daniel’s home is located in Saint-Chaffrey, Serre Chevalier Vallée, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, France.

Situated very close to an historic chapel (restored in 2018) that supposedly dates to 1100s, and to a church from the 1700s. Free weekly guided visits to these and other places of interest.

Location

Downhill ski slopes start in the next village, Chantemerle, connected by the navette bus service (free for skiers, 5 minutes ride).

Cross country skiing starts 2 villages away, Villeneuve ( 10 minutes ride), or a car drive to other cross country centres (Villard Saint Pancras, La Vachette).

Thermal baths are in Monetier, swimming pools in Briançon, Chantemerle and Villeneuve and many other sports in the Serre Chevalier valley (horse riding, climbing, go-karts, mountain bike, BMX).

There is a local grocery that sells just about everything, only 5 minutes walk from the house, open every day of the week. Otherwise 10 minutes drive to Briançon, where there are many shops and supermarkets, and a weekly grocery market.

Getting around

A quiet local road arrives right in front of the house, and there are private places to park for 3 cars (1 in the garage, 2 outside).

5 minutes’ walk to the bus stop, where there is a local bus service for skiers, and a regional bus routes stop.

You can arrive either by car, or by train or bus to Briançon, then get a bus to the local bus stop (5 minutes’ walk away), or a local taxi.

The closest mountain walks start in the village, so just put on your walking boots and go!
